A good week
Here is the San Francisco Symphony Hall. It is very beautiful. We went there Friday night and heard some Faure, some Schubert, Dvorak, Grieg, and Prokofiev. Their guest artist was a world renowned concert pianist Yuja Wang, a young woman from China. She played so powerfully, she broke a string on the grand piano, and they couldn't fix it, so she only got to perform one number, but it was amazing.
Going to "The City" was a great experience. We were in the heart of downtown, and the traffic was horrendous, but Sheila Call, who is the lady we have talked about with the "Italian Villa", who fixes dinner for over a hundred people every other Sunday, drove us, and she is quite a determined driver! She isn't intimidated by any one or any thing! We went with some friends of theirs , non members, who are amazing people. He formed a startup company a number of years ago, having to do with electrical engineering, and they are very wealthy. They are very into art, so got a long with dad very well, and had us into their home after to see all their art. They have a gorgeous home.
Then we did visits on Saturday. It sure is fun meeting all these intelligent, vibrant people. We are learning a lot from them, and that's what makes us feel like missionaries. We drive all over the place, knocking on doors, and only get in once in awhile, but those "once in awhiles" are the greatest.
We spoke in church Sunday. Our topic was Prophets and Revelation, so I mainly focused on personal revelation. I felt prompted to talk about David, and how I was helped to heal after his death by personal revelation. I can't tell you how many people afterward had things to tell us about depression, dealing with hardships, etc., and thanked us for our candor and opening up to them. We felt very loved and appreciated, and feel like we are being accepted into the ward family.
Today is the big mid single adult barbeque at the Call's home, and it is kind of the culmination of our big outreach. We are hoping to get a lot of people there. One guy yesterday in church asked us what our purpose was, and we said to help and support. He said we could find him a wife! Maybe we need to start a match making business on the side!
Here are the latest visitors to our pool! We see them out there swimming around every morning. I don't imagine chlorine is good for them, but how do we tell them that???
I will take another picture of our geese families. The babies are getting so big it is amazing. Also amazing is how much poop they leave all over the sidewalks!
Last night they had a devotional dedicated to the missionaries that are leaving, including our Mission President and his wife. It was amazing. The missionaries were asked to sum up their mission and bear their testimonies in 3 minutes! It was great. Then they had some of the recent converts talk, and they had incredible conversion stories. Several people performed musical numbers. There is a lot of talent in those young missionaries, and the mission president's wife sang a solo, also. Altogether a wonderful evening.
So we have had a great week, and plan on having a repeat of greatness this week! We are going back to the Oakland temple tomorrow, helping with the Institute dinner on Wednesday, visiting the rest of the week.
We sure would like to hear about your weeks. Let's hear some of your exciting adventures! Tracy will have some to share from her cruise, and Amy will hopefully have time to share some of their adventures when they get back. Even if you don't think you have anything exciting to report, please comment and let us know how you all are. We love and miss you.
Hope your Memorial Day is good. We got a picture Saturday of Bruce and Cailee at Grandma and Grandpa Crockett's gravesite, and it was fun to see them. They also went to Dave's. Ron and Leslie take them. If anyone gets out there, send us a picture, k?

I'm glad you had a good week. I must admit that it hasn't been the best for me, especially today, but I am hopeful it will get better. I am feeling rather lonely with most of my family off on grand adventures. We spent the night last night at Craig and Wendi's. We had a pretty good time, but it meant that we had to postpone going up to the cemetery until Wednesday after Shawn gets home from work. We will email you some pics when we do.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a very nice week. I love seeing the pics adn reading your stories. Keep up the good work blogging Mom!
ReplyDeleteExciting adventures...Let's see I weeded 4 hours Saturday, then we had a BBQ with the Wolfe sisters here in the rain on Sunday. Then yesterday was lovely weather so of course I had to work. With the basic yard work out of the way, Dave is working on some really big planter boxes. Bill and Roma will be here Wednesday, then we go to Denver Friday, fly to Florida Saturday and by Sunday I will be on a very huge ship. Yay!
PS: I wanted to let everyone know my phone will be turned off while we are out of the country, but Dave's will be on so if anyone needs his number text or email me.
Yay Tracy! I am soooooo excited for you. You are going to have so much fun and it will be such a relaxing vacation. I am convinced that cruising is the only way to travel.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great week, Mom. So, you were in San Fran? I love it there. Lots of stuff to do and see. Can't wait to hear about Amy's trip. The little I've seen of Rob's posts have been very interesting. I'm sorry you haven't had a good week, Meg. We need to plan a get together! We should go to lunch or BBQ or something. Tracy, I hope you have a great time on your cruise!
ReplyDeleteThe past week was pretty stressful for me. I am SO ready for school to be done it's not even funny! The boys still have almost 6 weeks AAACK!! Shalee's end of year projects is really what is stressing me out though. Last week I ran to like 4 different stores looking for white streamers. I was refusing to go to the party store because I knew they would be more expensive but that's seriously the only place I could find them. Of course I didn't drive out of West Jordan lol. Then she had to make an authentic Mexican dish at home. Well, a dish from a Spanish speaking country. I chose Mole...big mistake. Not only was it gross but it took about 6 hours to make and quite expensive. Then this weekend she had to do a Rube Goldberg machine. Which you can watch on video here

If that link doesn't work let me know. I don't know how to do the links that people can click on. So, all I'm saying is if she comes home with another year end project I might scream.
Good and relaxing news is our pool is open. Other than the project we tried to relax this weekend. We saw 2 movies. Xmen and Divergent. Divergent was good but they left sooo much out, like always. Dave was so confused because he didn't read the books. The weather has also been great the past few days. We finally turned on our AC.
Well, that's it for me for now. We are going down to Dave's dad's house today. Love you all
Hi all!
ReplyDeleteI'm home and quite rested. We arrived at 10 pm Monday night, and got to bed about midnight because the kids wanted to see the stuff we brought them lol! We were officially up for 32 hours. Of course I slept a bit on the plane rides, but how good is your sleep with screaming babies and loud plane engines? I slept from midnight until 5:30 pm yesterday. haha! It was awesome!!!! I'm slowly getting things put away and laundry done.
Mom it was so great to catch up on everything going on with the mission. I'm so glad you guys are busy. That's the only way to be on a mission. You are both doing great things and I know the difference you've made in the lives of people in San Jose will reap huge rewards. Life is all about relationships, and you guys are running with that concept!
Tracy I hope you guys have a wonderful trip. We will all eventually have to go on a cruise. We'll make it happen after Mom and Dad's return from the mission. Maybe they'll cruise with us before they leave for Europe!
Ian is home for two weeks until he leaves for Korea, and I was so incredibly happy to see him when he came over last night. His stuff is already on its way to Korea, and he is getting excited to start this new adventure.
We need to invite the grandkids as contributors on the blog. I would love to read about what's up with the nieces and nephews. I loved seeing Shalee's Rube Goldberg machine. She did a great job!!
So my trip was amazing. It was waaayyyy too long though. We've decided we can handle about 10-12 days, then we need to come home. 18 days was torture. It was so incredibly busy every single day, we would get to the hotel room at night and crash. I slept great the whole trip. Rob took over 2500 pictures, so we have some serious condensing to do. We are in charge of a slide show that we'll present at the culminating party for our group June 21st. My favorite part of the trip was meeting and spending time with so many incredible new people. It was wonderful making new friends, and we feel like some of them will be life-long. There's not enough time to see everyone you want to see in this life though, so I'm hoping we get lots of chances in the next one!
I will try and post some pictures and narrative from our trip every day for a while. I know I said that before about when I was actually ON the trip, but it was too unrealistic!
Everything seemed OK at home while we were gone, but again, 18 days is a long time, and I think Jen about went crazy with stress. She is trying to recover now that we're back.
Thanks for cleaning my house while we were gone Erin; it looks wonderful! We kind of messed it up with all our luggage and laundry, but once we get rid of the clutter, I'll know it is clean underneath. :)
More later...
Mom, are you guys attending a single's ward?
ReplyDeleteLoved everyone's comments. We're all so glad Amy is home! You were missed. Can't wait to see your pictures and hear all about it. We would love to go on a cruise with the family. Wouldn't that be fun? So everyone start saving, k? Wish we had tons of money to take you all, but we're spending what we have here in California, home of the incredibly expensive food and gas and housing. My mom always said to spend your kid's inheritance!
DeleteWe are in a family ward that incorporates a mid singles ward into it. They attend Sacrament meeting together, have separate Sunday School classes, and attend RS/Priesthood together. They also have separate activities.
I would love to see the grandkids on here. I don't know their emails, so the parents will have to invite them, I think. Ask Meg! We haven't heard much from Bruce and Cailee lately. Maybe someone can check that everything is okay with them. We email every week but they stopped answering.
We had a busy night helping at the institute dinner for the YSA again. It's always great, but tiring.
One more thing - our Memorial Day party turned out great. We had over 100 people come, a lot of whom came because of our efforts with the missionaries. It was a lot of fun. They swam, played pickle ball, volleyball, tennis, bocce ball. Lots of food. I made a salad that was really good. It's in a recipe book Amy has, called "Savoring the Seasons, Our Best Bites", by some Utah ladies. The salad was called Kathy's Chicken Salad. So that's easy for our family to remember, huh? Maybe Amy can give the recipe to all you Utahns, Or maybe I'll post it. Scrumptious!
